Boxed Pair of 18ct & 22ct Gold & Enamel Commemorative Brooches 'Prince Albert Edward of Wales' Born 1841
Details: A fantastic and wonderfully designed boxed early Victorian pair of 18ct & 22ct yellow gold brooch adorned with blue-white enamel commemorating the birth of Prince Albert Edward of Wales (the future King Edward VII) in 1841. The first example features a young Queen Victoria & Albert to the front with details of the birth & christening of the young prince to the reverse. The second brooch shows the baby prince underneath the Prince of Wales feathers with 'Born. Nov. 9th 1841' to the reverse. The interior medals have been XRF tested as 22ct gold with the surrounding mount testing as 18ct. The brooches feature the original fitted tooled leather case from Howell James & Co. of Regent Street. These brooches were almost certainly privately commissioned making them entirely unique examples.
