22ct Gold Mounted Queen Victoria Jubilee Portrait Watercolour Miniature Group Medallion Antique 1897
Description
Details: An important and beautifully crafted late-Victorian large 22ct yellow gold mounted double watercolour portrait miniature group medallion or hanging ornament produced for the Diamond Jubilee celebration of Queen Victoria depicting both the Queen at the time of her coronation in 1837 and subsequently at the time of the jubilee in 1897, marking sixty years of continuous reign. The item features a crown above VR initials for the Queen, with the superior quality paintings mounted in finely chased gold. The bottom of the group features the shamrock, thistle & rose representing the nations of the United Kingdom. To the reverse the item is engraved with the dates 1837 & 1897 marking the years of her reign to date. The watercolour paintings are likely on ivory panels so please find below the Ivory License Reference. The group is also faintly stamped '15ct' but XRF tests throughout at 22ct gold or higher as would be expected in such a fine quality piece, please see pictures for reports. A true museum quality example, likely a commissioned piece for a person of importance in attendance at the jubilee celebrations. This is a wonderful item that would make a perfect gift or addition to any collection. We are more than happy to provide XRF reports for items upon request.
